Short Breaks
New regulations requiring Local Authorities to provide short breaks for families with
disabled children came into force in April 2011. The aim of short breaks is to provide
opportunities for disabled children to enjoy themselves, fulfil their potential and lead
ordinary lives whilst giving their families a break from caring. To find out what is on offer in your local authority follow the links below.
For Cheshire West and Chester Council
Visit their website at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk. Under the heading Children and Young Peoples Service, select Children with Disabilities followed by Short breaks for disabled children. This will then allow you to look at the Newsletter for short breaks. If you do not have access to a computer, please contact Mrs Lloyd in School and we can forward a copy to you.
For Cheshire East council
Visit their website at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk. From the home page, select Education and Learning and then Family Information Service. From here you can select the option Support for a child with additional needs. This will give you a complete list of what is available in your area.
