Specialist Support

The School Nurse

We have a full-time nurse at the Russett School, who administers medication and provides daily medical care for those pupils who need it. She also helps to arrange school medicals and liaises with other health professionals. She is always on hand for a chat if you have any concerns.

The Speech and Language Therapists

Their role is to assess the communication needs of all the pupils in school and to plan and advise staff and parents on implementing communication strategies. They also offer advice and guidance on eating and drinking skills, in conjunction with the occupational therapist.

The Physiotherapists

The physiotherapy staff provides individual sessions as well as advice and guidance to school staff and parents on programmes that will help an individual reach his or her physical potential, this could include individual sessions, group activities, rebound therapy and hydrotherapy. The physiotherapists are also responsible for liaising with other health professionals in assessing pupils for specialized equipment such as standing frames, seating, splints and footwear for school and home use.

The Occupational Therapist

Occupational Therapists work with the physiotherapists, parents and classroom staff in assessing pupils for specialized equipment, e.g. seating, for use both at school and at home. Occupational Therapists also carry our assessments and provide advice and ideas on improving pupils’ daily living skills, including eating and drinking, where advice is provided in conjunction with the speech therapist.
