28th August 2020
I hope you all had an enjoyable Summer, albeit different. I am looking forward to welcoming all of our pupils safely back to the academy next week.
As a reminder, Tuesday 1st September is an Inset day and all pupils will return full time on Wednesday 2nd September. There will be no staggered starts and the academy day will continue to start at 8.50am and finish at 3.10pm.
The Trust Covid 19 Policy and updated Risk Assessments will be available on the website, which explain the safety procedures we have put in place. Please ensure you read them as the guidance is changing regularly. We will review the risk assessments and Government guidance as it comes in.
During August, the Department for Education updated their guidance for the full opening of schools, which can be accessed by the following link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak/guidance-for-full-opening-schools
If you have not already done so, please can you complete the Passport Back to School Questionnaire which was sent with the last letter on 17th July and return it to: email@example.com.
From 2nd September there will be two entrances. The main pupil entrance will be accessed by Rooms 1-9. Rooms 10 and 11 will access the entrance in Room 11. Please be mindful that it will take longer to get pupils in and out of the building safely at the start and end of the day. On arrival, pupil’s hands will be sanitised and we will continue to take their temperature.
The Government has advised the wearing of face masks for children in year 7 and above. If you choose to follow the guidance, please provide your own mask.
If your child arrives late or is being picked up early for an appointment, please telephone the office and we will open the pupil entrance. There is no access through reception.
You should have already been informed about transport direct from the LA. As far as we are aware, they have tried to maintain that children travel within their umbrella pod.
If you have any queries regarding transport, please note the following numbers: CWAC 01244 973377, Cheshire East 01270 371489.
If you bring your child to the academy yourself, then please park on the road and enter the premises through the pedestrian gate and line up socially distanced at the gate to the car park and wait for a member of staff to collect your child. Please be mindful that you might have to sit in your car so that you are not waiting too long.
To ensure the academy can operate safely and deliver the curriculum, lower school will be Umbrella Pod 1 and upper school will be Umbrella Pod 2. Within those Pods we have individual class groups. As per the risk assessment you will see that in certain classes there will be staggered morning breaks. Lunch will be in class apart from Room 9 as they are next to the hall. The curriculum will be offered as normal, including a recovery curriculum to support those pupils who may be anxious about returning to the academy.
Please remember that any medication sent in has to be in date, in its original packaging with the pupils name and dosage on.
Pupils are encouraged to bring in a snack and their own water bottle.
Collective Worship will take place in class on a Friday afternoon. Forest School and PE will be delivered as per the risk assessment.
For the first half of the term, 1:1 work and use of the sensory and community rooms will not be taking place.
There will not be any off site visits for pupils. This will be reviewed after half term.
We will continue to use home contact diaries and a protocol will be coming out in the next letter.
Annual reviews will commence after half term and will take place by Zoom meeting. The paperwork will be sent out as normal and you will receive a link by email.
We are welcoming back our NHS Physiotherapy and Speech and Language staff, who will be following our risk assessment. Jane Mullen our independent Speech and Language Therapist is also returning and will be focusing on upper school pupils in the autumn term. We are continuing to work with our independent Occupational Therapist, Katherine Alexander who will be focusing on lower school in the autumn term.
During the autumn term, ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants) will be offered to Umbrella Pod 2 only, within the classes.
Staff will be cleaning down equipment on a daily basis, between activities and at the end of the day. We have commissioned Brandall Cleaners to do additional time every day. There will be a deep clean during October half term.
Visitors will be kept to a minimum and will be asked to use sanitising gel and wear a mask.
If your child or anyone in your household develops symptoms, please get tested. If the test is positive, as per the Covid 19 Policy, the whole household has to self- isolate for 14 days. Please inform the academy office as soon as possible.
